Recycling Single Stream
The city provides several recycling options to Elk City residents only. We have single stream recycling which means all recyclables that are receivable in these bins can all go into the same receptacle, no separation required. These are located at the Civic Center (1016 E HWY 66), Rotary Park (500 W Country Club), Ackley Park (West of the Rodeo Groundsl) and the Animal Shelter (1120 S. Main). Newspaper, junk mail, envelopes, paperboard, magazines, plastics #1 through #7 and all types of metal are accepted.
Items not accepted at these locations are; light bulbs of all types, batteries, electronics, photo paper, styrofoam, glass, and books. All single stream recyclables are taken to Oklahoma City to an MRF (materials recycling facility). Once there, recyclables are separated and baled and then sold to Vendors who then reuse them in various ways.
Cardboard collection service is available for commercial businesses with justifiable volumes. Residents are welcome to bring any amount of cardboard to the four drop off locations listed under single stream recycling. All cardboard must be clean of any trash and be put into the marked and designated cardboard bins.
Electronics can be dropped off for free by Elk City residents at our Recycling Collections Center located at the City Shop at 510 E 3rd, Elk City. All types of batteries, computers, printers, televisions, scanners, microwaves, copiers or anything that has an electric cord attached, except appliances such as washers, dryers, and refrigerators, are accepted. Hours of operation are Monday - Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. We urge Elk City residents to bring their TV’s to the center, they are no longer allowed in the City’s Landfill and if brought to the Landfill a charge will be applied to cover the cost of relocating the TV to the Recycling Collections Center.
