Youth and Family Programs
Welcome
In August of 1996, Elk City Youth and Family Programs was created by the City of Elk City in response to the escalating problem of juvenile crime and juvenile gang activity. Over the years, through the development and implementation of a multitude of prevention, intervention and diversionary programs, juvenile delinquency has been reduced dramatically. Partnerships with the Elk City Public Schools, the Juvenile Court, Law Enforcement and the Office of Juvenile Affairs have contributed to the significant decline in juvenile crime in Elk City.
Programs sponsored by ECYFP include the Elk City Teen Court, the Youth Employment Training Program & "Buck's Lodge", the Western Oklahoma Tobacco Control Program (WOTCP), the Offender Program, the Elk City Trash Detail and weekly therapeutic education classes. We are also able to refer individuals into the 'Creating Lasting Family Connections' substance abuse program.
ECYFP is very involved with the Oklahoma Unified Resources (OUR) Turning Point Coalition. This coalition collaborates on numerous community-based issued and is always looking for grants to fund community projects. The coalition works in the areas of substance abuse, health & wellness and positive youth development. Anyone interested in attending a coalition meeting can contact Cheryl Megli. The meetings are held every third Thursday of the month from 12:00-1:00pm at The Gathering Place in Elk City. All are welcome and encouraged to come!
