Waste Water Treatment Plant
The Waste Water Treatment Plant consists of 19 lagoons capable of handling 550 million gallons. The average flow is 1.3 million gallons a day.
The City is also in the process of using secondary lagoon water from the WWTP to irrigate the golf course. Secondary lagoon water is treated water that is approved for irrigation. The moving of the secondary lagoon water will help the City in a couple of ways. One, it will free up lagoon space and two, it will turn a nice golf course into a lush green course in the summer.
Mike McFall, WWTP Superintendent, holds the following: A Level Water lab, A Level Waste Water Lab, B Level Waste Water Operator, A Level Water Operator. The lab is approved by the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) as a Commercial Environmental lab. This certification allows DEQ required testing to be done here instead of having to be sent to Oklahoma City. Elk City is one of only 13 commercial labs in Oklahoma; there are only 2 labs west of I35, the other is in Lawton.
Elk City's lab currently tests water for over 100 public water systems as well as numerous private wells.
